There are a lot of opinions expressed here, but let's get two things straight:
First, intermittent water fasting is a health-promoting practice, as well as an effective way to lose fat and maintain muscle. See "Fasting and Eating for Health" by Fuhrman, "The Warrior Diet" by Hofmekler, and "Evolutionary Fitness" by De Vany.
Second, it is arguable that losing excess fat "unhealthily" is more health-promoting than leaving it on your body (and up around your organs). You can't be healthy and fat. Anybody who says otherwise is likely a fat person who wants to feel better about himself.
