I think the reason people idolize people is because it makes them somehow 'other'. The more 'otherness' they have, the less responsibility you have to compete with them. A person could say, "Steve quit his job and writes for a living," or "Steve maintains a healthy weight" and the response would likely be, "Well, Steve is, like, God or something." For that matter, Steve was also a felon who is probably banned from Wal-Mart. I don't think he changed by idolizing someone else. |
