Default The Joy of Disbelief

Of all of our beliefs there is none so powerful as disbelief.

While the reading Joy of Sadness I remembered the theory that when we participate in a movie we suspend our disbelief. We join in the fantasy and allow our emotions to follow those of the main characters.

This in itself is a tool that we can all use in our everyday lives. Not only can we suspend our disbelief but we can also suspend our limiting beliefs.

Personally, I do not subscribe to linguistic constructs separating man into parts. Our identity is whole. We are not separately rational, spiritual, emotional or physical. We are energy and will return to the energy soup that exists beyond physical experience.

There is too much made of separation as though we can be totally rational. Denying our emotions does not rid us of them. It only makes us sound foolish.

But, having said that, I do believe that we can think, as Steve suggests, as having a separate objective observer watching us squirm as we go through our daily lives. That is a useful tool for self-awareness.

I'll continue this on my on blog
