I do tend to see it as a scale, and my own position on that scale changes slightly with time, usually putting me somewhat off center with occasional pendulum swings in one direction or the other. To me it seems that women are apt to be closer to the middle while men are usually closer to one extreme or the other (myself being an exception to my own generalization).
