My husband studied economics in college, and now that he has spent several years doing other reading, he feels that the economics he learned in college was worthless (mostly the Keynesian and Chicago branches). Over the last year or so, he has been reading and raving about books and articles published by the Mises Institute. I took a quick glance at their website, and the Concise Guide to Economics looks like a good place to start. I'll talk to my husband and see if he has any other specific recommendations for you.
