I've found that clients are often too keen to relate to things I'm saying during readings and will quickly assume relatedness where it doesn't exist at that point in time. One of the difficulties often is getting accurate time frames for future events. When I'm given times and dates they are deadly accurate, other times they aren't given and spirit may jump to a significant future event 2-3 yrs ahead.

I find my readings vary hugely from one person to another. One reading may focus on immediate issues, another may be centred on past issues that are impeding the clients path forward and the next may be all future forecasting. In amongst them are communications with deceased friends and relations or guides (even pets). Some readings are purely on a spiritual level.

Like Erin, I find that the clearer the clients intent and the more open and willing they are to ask short clear questions and allow the response from spirit to flow uninterupted, the better the reading. Some clients (usually the great communicators) feel compelled to elaborate on issues and events touched on by readers and will walk away with a tape recording of more of themselves speaking than they'd intended. It is as frustrating for the reader as the client.

I ask my clients to hold their questions quietly in mind at the start of reading and they'll have an opportunity ask anything thats been unanswered further along. If they have a specific area they want urgently covered or more depth on, they can indicate it at the start (business, relationship or contact with deceased).

One of daughters is body therapist at an inner city spa and she was saying today that some of her clients come in distracted and wound up like springs. She said it's frustrating because the real work doesn't start until they fully surrender and relax and some could do with another half hour because it doesn't happen till the last ten minutes. I can relate because the same thing happens with readings. As Erin said, if you can find a space to relax and quiet yourself down before a reading, you'll get more out of it.
