Are you using Google Analytics for WordPress by Joost de Valk?
This is how I do it: I first go to GoogleAnalytics.com and switch to the "old version" view. Then I proceed to the "Overview." From there, on the bottom, is a link to "Add Website Profile."
Once done with that, I go to my WordPress site and into the analytics plugin page. I hit the big blue "Click here to authenticate with Google" button. And that's it!
You just follow the onscreen instructions at each step.
