One thing that occurred to me after I posted that is that perhaps the blood-taste is what's usually referred to as a "metallic taste"? I'm not sure what that could mean, but it could be another angle to approach this from.
When I had migraines, I almost always had visual effects--not outright hallucinations, but I was incredibly sensitive to light and it distorted things sometimes.
When I mean diet triggered for me these days it's almost always an artificial sweetener, but I usually avoid those. Oh! And I've had some triggered by stress too.
