Everything that science has brought us has been conceived and elaborated upon using logic. It's one of the best tools for dispelling erroneous thinking, superstition and baseless beliefs.
A good understanding of the fundamentals of the principles of logic does a lot to protect the individual from fraud, abuse, sophism, manipulation and so on as well.
