Absolutely ok to do that Tom. Your conscious mind has NO idea what needs cleaning! If a situation arises, it's just bringing to your conscious mind that something still needs cleaning!
For me, the greatest change has been if 'anyone makes me angry' (or, more correctly, a situation arises where I would previously have chosen to feel angry) with thoughtless or bad behaviour, now, before responding, about 90% of the time, instead of responding in an angry way, I stop and think "I am responsible for this somehow even if I cannot conceive of why or how! Clean!"
