I loved the analogy of not blaming the car because it won't go through the tree. I'd just add that it's also useless to "blame" the driver. Why even waste time with that? Just change the approach.
So much time and energy is wasted looking for someone to blame - even if we are wasting that time and energy on blaming ourselves and sitting in that self-pity, just like you said. It's good to know that there's a better way.
