Actually, beauty, they do purport to be accounts of actual conversations with a supreme being.
And, that's part of the beauty of the conversations....you really just have to read for yourself. I highly suggest starting with the very beginning (acknowledgements, introduction, chapter 1) of Book 1. The books progress in concept as God lays the groundwork from the beginning...He builds a foundation and then carries you through a series of explanations that you need the foundation to appreciate. These books are amazing.
Even if you believe it is impossible for someone to have a conversation with a supreme being...read it anyway.
