Day 7:
With the $3,000 from yesterday, today's $7,000, the $10,000 I actually have in savings and getting the $6,000 deposit back from my rental apartment (Korea has an odd system) I can finally feel good about quitting my job and moving back to Europe on a lark, even with no immediate job prospects. Wow, just thinking about it without worrying feels amazing.
I have a month's notice that's already packed with the funner stuff that makes up my job, so it's a great time for me to call it quits. The boy can move immediately to find and set up an apartment and start networking. I have a month to sort through our belongings, sell what we're not keeping and ship the rest (under $500, if that), secure a flight for the dog before the winter embargo, and deal with red tape. The timing even works out so that I could sign up to vote in my new country in 2012, we could start the paperwork to get married, and just move on with our lives already.
If the timing works out W. might even be able to come back in a month to fly out of the country for good together (I'm not particularly looking forward to dealing by myself with the tricky bits of giving up the apartment, making it to the airport etc. with 20 kg of luggage and a sheepdog in tow. Although I suppose renting the services of a pet taxi and a pet-friendly hotel would be a great idea).
