I understand VetTechJess this is your personal preference and you certainly may make your site look and feel any way you please, but a user survey could determine what your users might like.
I have created sites that I love and no one else seemed to like them at all. Such sites are fine if they are my hobby. I still have a couple of sites like this. If however, I wish to attract and serve other people I must provide a user experience that has value to them.

thats just it tho--the bkg you see on the front of the page is something I got from a website that makes veterinary themed sites!!!!
