This session was conducted on January 4, 2008, when I was only 3-1/2 days into my 30-day trial of the raw food diet.

Roger recorded the phone call from his end. My voice is a little faint on the recording, but you should still be able to make it out well enough.

I’m not counting this as an official podcast, but for convenience it’s encoded for download via RSS for those who subscribe to the podcast feed. I don’t intend to get back into regular podcasting until my book is done.

Some of the items we discuss include:

  • how to eat simpler, non-gourmet raw meals
  • eating fat later in the day
  • green smoothies
  • blended salads
  • dried fruits
  • how to incorporate fat in the diet w/o food-combining problems
  • social consequences of raw and vegan diets

For me the value in this coaching session was mainly in learning the attitude and mindset of someone who’s been eating a low-fat raw diet for years.

I don’t recommend listening to this unless you have a keen interest in the raw food diet; otherwise you can certainly skip it and save yourself an hour.

Many people have been socially conditioned to believe that a career or job should be chosen based how well it pays and how qualified you are to hold it.  This podcast will explain why that approach is completely backwards.  Paradoxically by selecting a career based on money and skills, your financial and career results will be but a pale shadow of your potential.  And even worse than that, you will virtually guarantee long-term unhappiness.  Going to work each day will become something you only do because you have to, not because you want to, and staying motivated will be very, very hard.

The path for conscious human beings is to focus first and foremost on joyful, creative self-expression.  That is far more important than money, skill fit, or even contribution to others.  Your own creativity is the very mechanism by which you’ll achieve everything else you could possibly want — including financial abundance, superior talent, long-term fulfillment, and meaningful contribution.

This podcast is organized around the four-part model from the article Living Congruently:

  • Body (physical needs):  What must you do?
  • Mind (talents and skills):  What can you do?
  • Heart (passion and desire):  What do you want to do?
  • Spirit (purpose and contribution):  What should you do?

One of my greatest wishes is for you to enjoy a deeply fulfilling career that is an ideal fit for who you are, such that the very act of being yourself allows you to meet your needs almost effortlessly.  In order to get there, however, you’ll need to release any disempowering beliefs that still hold you back.

Throughout this podcast I share my own career mistakes and successes in the hope they may help you understand how to apply these ideas in your own life.  I explain why I switched careers in 2004 and how I came to that decision.

I recorded this podcast yesterday but didn’t have time to post it until today.  Hence the date mentioned on the podcast is one day earlier than this post.

This first half of this podcast explores the idea of turning your seemingly “dark” life experiences into positive strengths.  I tell the story of how being a kleptomaniac in my late teens helped me develop focus and courage, qualities that serve me well to this day.

The second half covers the topic of polarity and the fundamental question that determines our choice of polarity:  Are we fundamentally, unconditionally safe here?

There’s an interesting story behind this podcast.  I originally recorded it on August 13, 2006, so this would have been podcast #16 if I’d posted it back then.  Somehow every time I sat down to edit and post it, I’d get interrupted by something that would pull me away from the computer.  The pattern became so ridiculous that even a couple weeks later, I still hadn’t been able to edit it yet.  I began wondering if I wasn’t supposed to post it for some reason.  With some frustration I put it on the back burner and went on to record and post other podcasts instead, experiencing no trouble with those.  The podcast that became #16 was The True Nature of Reality, one of the most popular podcasts I’ve recorded (and also one of the longest).

Now more recently I’ve been meaning to do a podcast on polarity to help clarify and unify some of the concepts from recent articles on this topic.  Once again I experienced this strange pattern of delay.  Every time I tried to sit down and create the podcast, something unexpected would interrupt me and take me away from my desk.  For example, our network would mysteriously cut out, and Erin would be yelling that her Internet connection went down.

Eventually I remembered this old podcast I recorded but never finished editing.  I wondered if I should edit and post it now and thought, “Nah.  My views on this topic have been refined a lot since then, and I’m sure I can do a better job on this today.  Plus it will only take about 30 minutes to do a fresh recording.”  But each time I rejected the idea and went to work on the new podcast, I’d get mysteriously interrupted.

Today I decided to just listen to the old podcast to see how “bad” it was.  Out of habit I fell into the pattern of editing it as I went along.  In seemingly no time, I had a finished recording ready to post.  By the time I got to the end, I thought it was halfway decent considering it was recorded before I wrote any of the polarity articles.  There’s a lot more I could say on the subject, but perhaps this simpler treatment was somehow meant to be posted now.

I want to point out a couple differences in the terminology I use in this podcast vs. my recent polarity articles.  First, at one point in the podcast, I mention how polarizing on the light (love) side can raise your consciousness.  I’m not referring to your level of consciousness here but rather your general state of awareness.  So I’m not saying that polarizing is going to instantly move you up in levels, merely that it will help make you aware of different things because you’re seeing reality through a new lens.

Secondly, this podcast is clearly lightworker-biased, so I definitely don’t give a balanced treatment to the dark side.  The whole first half is about how you can use your dark side experiences to benefit you on the light side, implying that being on the dark side is somehow a mistake.  Near the end of the podcast, I do mention that you’re free to make a conscious choice between the two polarities, but only after I’ve introduced it with labels like “evil” and “negative.”  This isn’t because I’m biased against darkworkers — it’s because I’m talking from the perspective of my own personal experience.  When I was dabbling with the dark side, my application of this energy was self-destructive.  You could have said I was suffering from darkworker syndrome.  But as I’ve stated more recently, it’s possible to act from a fear-based model of reality without self-destructing if your level of consciousness is high enough.

What I like about this podcast is that it explains where the fear and love polarities ultimately come from — your personal answer to the fundamental question we all face.  How you answer this question is what determines your polarity.  Since most people cannot answer it with a firm yes or no, most people aren’t polarized.  But life gets pretty interesting once you start leaning harder to one side or the other.

In this podcast you’ll gain insights on closing the gap between your current position and your goals/intentions.

In the language of Intention-Manifestation or the Law of Attraction, these ideas address how to come into resonance with your goal or to become a vibrational match for it.  If you prefer less new agey terms, it’s about how to shift your identity from where you are now to the person you’ll eventually be once you achieve your goal.  As your identity shifts to your new goal persona, you’ll feel naturally drawn to take whatever actions are necessary.  But if your identity remains fixed at your starting point, you usually won’t feel much inclination to act, and your progress will be minimal or nonexistent.

This internal identity shift is a critical but often overlooked part of achieving goals and manifesting intentions.  If you frequently set goals or put out intentions and then watch them die on the vine, it’s probably because you aren’t embracing the identity shift required to get there.  You may know what needs to be done intellectually, but you haven’t reached the point of inspired action because you’re sticking to your comfort zone instead of walking away from it.

There’s a vast difference between knowing what to do vs. actually doing it, and this podcast aims to help you move from knowing to being, doing, and having.  Whether you embrace traditional goal setting practices or the Law of Attraction or both, you won’t get very far until you learn to shift your identity from point A (your current position) to point B (your goal persona).  This identity shift is the difference between struggling with procrastination, laziness, ineffective action, and deluded wishful thinking vs. enjoying the ongoing flow of positive results from inspired action.

When your identity is out of sync with your goal, action is very difficult — it is doing.  When your identify comes into sync with your goal, action is inspired and effortless — it is being.

In this podcast I’ll share a couple internal shifts I experienced as a result of participating in the ongoing Million Dollar Experiment and how those shifts are bringing greater financial abundance into my life.  I’m not a millionaire yet, but I did recently pass the $100,000 mark, and I’ll offer up a few insights I gained along the way.  It’s been my experience that even seemingly subtle shifts in thinking can yield dramatic, measurable results on the outside.

This is my longest podcast to date (about 68 minutes).  I decided this was a good time to bring together the concepts of intention-manifestation, the Law of Attraction, and subjective reality to explain how they relate to each other.  While I’ve written multiple articles on each of these topics individually, until now I’ve never presented an integrated philosophy of how they interact.

This podcast aims to answer these questions:

  • What kind of reality do you actually live in?  What are its capabilities?
  • Do people, places, and objects still exist when you aren’t perceiving them?
  • What are the fundamental principles upon which you can build an accurate model of reality?
  • What assumptions have you made about reality that are totally unprovable and may in fact be wrong?
  • What are the limitations of the Law of Attraction, why do they arise, and how do you work around them?
  • How can you manifest more of what you want and less of what you don’t want?
  • If you’re stuck in an unhappy situation right now, why are you stuck, and how do you change it?
  • What is the mechanism by which intentions manifest?  Why don’t they manifest instantly?
  • Why might subjective reality be a more accurate model than objective reality?
  • What are the practical consequences of a subjective belief system?

If you want to improve your ability to manifest your desires, I think you’ll gain a lot from this podcast.  It’s long but also very thorough.  It offers a way of looking at reality that’s probably more empowering and potentially more accurate than your current perspective.

As with all of the ideas you’ll find here, my goal isn’t to convince you of anything.  My goal is to challenge you to consciously decide what’s true for you and why.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted a new podcast, so here’s a new one recorded by my wife, Erin (her first podcast was #10 on lucid dreaming).

One of the things I love most about my marriage is that I get to participate in the unfolding of Erin’s life path as well as my own.  Since the beginning of the year, she’s made the most enormous quantum leaps forward I’ve seen in the 12+ years I’ve known her.  She is completely on fire with passion, and we’re savoring every delicious minute of this time in our lives.  Often when I see her now, she will jump up and say, “I am so excited.  I am so excited!”

In this podcast Erin talks about how she initially chose to put security ahead of passion in her life, opting to go to graduate school and get a “real” job.  Eventually, however, she re-awakened to her spiritual purpose after years of denial and resistance.  In January she summoned the courage to ”burn the ships” and launched ErinPavlina.com, where she writes about what she’s most passionate about, especially psychic development.

In this podcast Erin mentions a blog post she wrote about her upcoming TV appearance on the Criss Angel Mindfreak show, where she actually went to a haunted house with a team of paranormal investigators to attempt to get in contact with spirits there.  She hasn’t been the same since she returned.  ;)

Many readers/listeners have asked me privately about my particular religious and spiritual beliefs.  Sometimes people also email me after making certain assumptions about what belief system I must follow, based on reading a subset of my articles.  If you’ve actually read all of my articles and tried to guess what my spiritual beliefs are, you’d probably find it very difficult.  Sometimes I write like an atheist, other times like a Buddhist, and still other times like some new agey person.

But the real truth is that I don’t identify with any particular belief system.  Rather, I tend to shift between belief systems like you might switch between different programs on your computer, based on which piece of software is the most appropriate tool for the current situation.  If you discuss time management with me, you might think I’m an atheist.  If you discuss meditation with me, you might assume I’m a Buddhist.  And if you discuss consciousness with me, you might think I follow some sort of new age philosophy.  But none of these scenarios would give you an accurate picture.

I want to challenge the idea that you must make your religious and spiritual beliefs a part of your identity (ex. “I am a Catholic” or “I am an atheist”).  I think that when you weave any philosophical, religious, or spiritual framework into your identity, you severely limit yourself, becoming like a computer that runs only one piece of software.  In this podcast I present an alternative way to think about your most sacred beliefs, such that you gain their strengths without suffering their limitations.  Think of this as Spirituality 2.0.

Today’s podcast is about building confidence, a topic that many readers have requested I cover.  This podcast will give you four different methods for boosting your confidence.

One of the reasons people don’t feel confident is that they harbor limiting beliefs that block them from tapping into this inner resource.  For example, do you believe that in order to feel confident, you must be well-prepared?  Believe it or not, that’s a limiting belief.  Even if you aren’t well prepared for a situation, you can still choose to feel confident.  Confidence is an internal state, and you don’t need an outside-in reason to justify triggering it.  While preparation is important, sometimes preparation and experience by themselves aren’t enough to create the feeling of confidence.  It’s entirely possible to be competent and well-prepared and still feel tremendous self-doubt.  This podcast will help you move beyond those limiting beliefs and learn to get yourself to feel confident whenever you feel it would be in your best interest to do so, such as asking for a date, giving a speech, or taking an exam.

Today’s podcast is called “Raising Awareness Through Multiple Perspectives.”  The goal of this podcast is to help you answer the question, “How shall I live my life?”  The present conditions of your life probably won’t give you enough clarity to provide an ideal answer straightaway.  At best your answer will be fuzzy and uncertain, if you can even come up with an intelligent answer at all.

By using your imagination to look at your life from other perspectives in both time and space, you can gain tremendous clarity.  You will see how your life looks from different angles.  Sometimes an answer that looks good from your present situation will look foolish from another angle.  As you use this process to eliminate the wrong answers, eventually you’re left with only a few candidates that pass the test of satisfying every conceivable perspective.

This exercise should be particularly helpful for those of you who just can’t decide what to do with your life as well as those whose answer seems to change haphazardly year after year with no rhyme or reason.

Guest podcaster: Erin Pavlina

This podcast addresses the fascinating subject of lucid dreaming, which is the ability to retain full conscious awareness while you dream. And best of all, this one is conducted by my wife Erin, who first taught me how to have lucid dreams when we met in 1994.

If you’ve never had a lucid dream before, simply listening to this podcast may help trigger you to have your very first one. And the reason is that the mere intention to have a lucid dream is often enough to invite a lucid dream experience shortly thereafter.

Pleasant dreams. ;)

This podcast will give you some tips on how to kick-start your own business, especially a part-time, home-based business.

Incidentally, I know the iTunes podcast subscription for this podcast isn’t working. You can still subscribe to it, but for some reason it isn’t displaying all the previous shows. I haven’t changed anything with the feed, so I contacted iTunes support (twice) to ask them why the iTunes listing suddenly stopped working and received no response after two weeks. I guess I’m supposed to “think different” if I want to get in touch with an actual human being. If anyone knows how to correct this problem or how to reach a human at iTunes, please let me know. In the meantime you can still subscribe via the regular RSS feed below.

Listen to Podcasts on Tivo http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/2005/12/listen-to-podcasts-on-tivo/ http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/2005/12/listen-to-podcasts-on-tivo/#comments Fri, 09 Dec 2005 13:38:15 +0000 Steve Pavlina http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/?p=371 SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "Listen to Podcasts on Tivo", url: "http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/2005/12/listen-to-podcasts-on-tivo/" });]]> I was just informed that it’s now possible to listen to podcasts on Tivo. Apparently, Tivo has added a new online service called “Podcaster.”

I don’t have Tivo myself, so I can’t test it out, but here’s the page on Tivo’s site with some (very minimal) info about it:

http://www.tivo.com/4.9.11.asp

I’m not sure how to get a podcast listed in Tivo’s own directory, but it looks like you can enter a specific URL. I’m guessing the one to enter for my podcasts would be:
http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/category/podcasts/

P.S. I know the iTunes listing for my podcast appears to be broken — it’s not displaying all the previous shows. It wasn’t anything I changed, but I will contact iTunes to see if they can fix it. In the meantime you can subscribe to the podcast via the podcast RSS link.

This podcast explores the topic of fear. It presents two ways to overcome fear, first by building courage and secondly by shifting your mental model of reality to eliminate the experience of fear entirely. The first method is fairly straightforward. The second one is far more challenging to describe, which accounts for the longer than usual length of this podcast.
