Discussion Forum Gems

The discussion forums on this site will soon pass 200,000 posts (probably by the end of the month). In addition to hosting the blog commentary, the forums are the place where everyone can openly share and explore their own ideas, not just the topics I write about. If you’d prefer not to register for a free forum account, you’re still free to read everything as a guest. You only need to register if you want to post your own messages or exchange private messages with other members. Nearly 15,000 people have registered so far.

In honor of our thriving forums, I thought I’d highlight some recent threads I found interesting.

Lost 20 Pounds in 6 Weeks - This is a quick-to-read summary of how one forum member lost 20 pounds in 6 weeks by changing his diet (with virtually no exercise). He shares what he ate in a typical day and reports feeling cleaner on the inside, more energetic, and needing less sleep. He has certainly come a long way since the time he began visiting the forums and was hooked on soda and candy bars. It’s wonderful to see people experiencing such powerful self-transformations.

Are Americans Dumb? - This thread discusses a sad/funny video about what Americans think they know about the world. It will make you laugh and cry at the same time. For convenience I embedded the video below. Apparently Muslim is the religion of Israel, and Germany is part of the Axis of Evil (these are some of the more intelligent quotes). Be afraid, New Zealand!

Are Americans Really That Stupid? - video powered by Metacafe

This makes me want to head over to the Las Vegas Strip with a video camera just to see what would happen. How selective do you have to be to find people like this?

Motivational Music - What songs inspire and motivate you? Forum members share their favorites. I really like “Insight” by Depeche Mode (from their album Ultra).

Need to Stop Looking at Other Girls - Is it wrong to look at other attractive people when you’re already in a relationship? Forum members discuss whether or not it’s okay for your eyes to wander beyond your primary partner. My personal opinion is that it’s silly to pretend you aren’t attracted to people you find beautiful. Don’t hide this from your partner — share it openly. If your partner reacts with jealousy, let that be a starting point to help him/her get over such insecurities and build more self-esteem. In a healthy relationship you can playfully point out attractive people to each other without suffering from jealousy. We’re all parts of the same whole anyway, so feel free to look at yourself all you want.

Why Do We Forget? - This is an interesting discussion about past lives and the veil of amnesia. If you look at your existence as a time-bound series of earthly incarnations, then why forget each life before starting the next one? Why spend so much time relearning the same stuff over and over? Is there a greater reason for the veil?

A big thank you to the moderators for helping to build and maintain such an awesome community!
