Humor: Laughing Your Way to Health

April 4th, 2006 by Steve Pavlina          Email this article to a friend Email this article to a friend

If there’s such a thing as a born comedian, my friend George Gilbert would certainly qualify.  He’s been performing before audiences since he was 11 years old, and his parents were a popular comedy duo who traveled and performed with Bob Hope, Jack Benny, Red Skelton, and many other famous comedians.  After doing comedy for decades and witnessing the benefits of laughter firsthand, George transitioned his career from comedy to motivational humor.  He now speaks professionally on the practical benefits of humor, including enhanced team-building, customer service, and wellness.

Did you know that you can significantly improve your health simply by laughing more?  There are abundant health benefits to laughter, including reduced stress, lower blood pressure, and an enhanced immune system.  Now that I think about it, I’ve hardly gotten sick at all during the past year (maybe one minor cold in 12 months), so perhaps all the humor work I’ve been doing has contributed to that.

For more on the specific health benefits of laughter, read George’s article Laughter – It Does a Body Good.
