StevePavlina.com Personal Development for Smart People podcast #9

This podcast will give you some tips on how to kick-start your own business, especially a part-time, home-based business.

Incidentally, I know the iTunes podcast subscription for this podcast isn’t working. You can still subscribe to it, but for some reason it isn’t displaying all the previous shows. I haven’t changed anything with the feed, so I contacted iTunes support (twice) to ask them why the iTunes listing suddenly stopped working and received no response after two weeks. I guess I’m supposed to “think different” if I want to get in touch with an actual human being. If anyone knows how to correct this problem or how to reach a human at iTunes, please let me know. In the meantime you can still subscribe via the regular RSS feed below.

  1. GBGames’ Blog » Blog Archive » Coincidence? Way Too Weird Says:

[...] I spent the past week looking up as much information as I could on forming an LLC for GBGames. It was starting to frustrate me that there seemed to be an overwhelming amount of legal knowledge required, which was discouraging, and the other day I discover that Steve Pavlina has a new podcast called Kick-start Your Own Business. Today I find that MicroISV has a link to A Guide to Starting Your Business. Discouragement no more. [...]

[...] For my sake and reality’s sake lets just hope I can learn to write just a little bit better and keep going.  I’m going to ask my dear wife if she will help me with this “just a little bit better” part.  She is a pro at the writing thing as she teaches high school english. Why 30 days?  I was inspired by Steve over at stevepavlina.com.  In the last 18 months he has created a very insightful an useful personal development website.  I’m not sure if I by into all of his focal points like polyphasic sleep and veganism.  However I’ll keep reading his stuff and see what I find useful.  Having read just a handful of articles he has gained credibility with me, especially with “getting started” and “take action now”. Maybe it’s just the timing of where I am in life now and discovering his website but he has motivated me to do something different. As far as I’m concerned he’s got me started. I read one of his many blog entries about taking action and was inspired to follow his “30 Days to Success” plan. Steve takes the mantra of 28 days till a habit and expounds it to 30. Give something a try for 30-days and if you have success then keep it going. So here I am with homedirt.com. [...]

  4. Connected Logic » Blog Archive » Just start Says:

[...]  However, I was listening to a podcast by Steve Pavlina on kick starting your own business where he talks about the “ready, fire, aim” technique.  Basically, just start and adjust later on.  As fast as is possible make decisions, and if they’re wrong then change them.  Just don’t get stuck in the aim, aim, aim procastination cycle. [...]

  5. Figment Games » Blog Archive » Ready, Fire, Aim Says:

[...] In a recent podcast Steve Pavlina talked about kick starting your business, with advice aimed at turning a profit as soon as possible. One comment in particular made me think. He mentioned how when he started speaking about personal development as a business he didn’t bother making a fancy website, designing a business logo, nor making fancy flyers or business cards instead he concentrated on the things that would make him money as soon as possible, eg the website content needed to draw in visitors. I have to wonder how many projects spent more time creating a flashy website than working on the game the site is promoting. In many cases the games never reached fruition making all the work on the website a waste. [...]

  6. Money Crashers » Blog Archive » Alternative Ways to Starting Your Own Business Says:

[...] 7:51 pm If you are like me, then you may have started out with a very formal way of thinking when it comes to entrepreneurial ventures.  The traditional school of thought is that you must have a business plan, have a substantial amount of capital, and be extremely organized and planned with your marketing plan.  I thought that all of these things were essential to starting and being successful with a new business, but then I listened to Steve Pavlina’s podcast about kick starting your own business.  [...]

  7. Self Help Fair - Just another WordPress weblog » Welcome! Says:

[...] Welcome! By byamabe Welcome to the Self Help Fair. I got the idea for this blog from two Steve Pavlina podcast, one entitled “How to Make Money Without a Job” and the other “Kick-start Your Own Business.” I’ve been looking for a business to start for a long time, but I’ve never able to put something together that would replace my entire income. What I’ve finally taken to heart is that I need to create income streams, multiple income streams. [...]

  8. Nev’s blog - Listen to podcasts twice as fast Says:

[...] The only downside to pre-processing is that you may not be able to alter the speed on-the-fly when you listen to it later (depending on what device you’re using). While I listen to most podcasts at 2x speed, some people are naturally fast talkers and I may listen to them at only 1.6x. Or I may want to fully absorb a topic like Steve Pavlina’s podcast on how to kick start your own business, so I’ll listen to it much slower. [...]

  10. The Renegade Writer Blog » Blog Archive » How Screwing Up Can Bring You Freelancing Success Says:

[...] If the fear of not being perfect is keeping you from getting your work out there, here are two resources that will help motivate you to embrace your mistakes. One is a podcast on Kick-Starting Your Business from Steve Pavlina’s excellent site Personal Development for Smart People. In this podcast, Pavlina urges you to just try things and see if they work. If they do, great. If not, try something else. But at least you’re taking action, which will get better results than sitting there fretting about doing it “right.” This is what Pavlina calls the “ready-fire-aim” approach. [...]

  11. A New Start? « starting from scratch Says:

[...] I took a day and allowed my strong emotions to scour the slate clean. I reconsidered my ability to run my own business, and thought hard about possible employment opportunities I might take instead. No, I really do want my own business; it is important to me. I listened to Kickstart Your Own Business and read Cubicle Nation for a few hours and then brainstormed business ideas, from a clean slate. My skillset and my interests bring me back to essentially the same thing I have been working on — after all, how could I have worked on it for so long with no results unless it was something I was really passionate about?
