Oh it's good to read this...

I've just said NO for a well paying part-time job offer in order to focus on my goals - shareware. I've sure lost some money on the short run but I conserved my chance to make a living from shareware soon.

I've chosen my own goals instead of someone else's goals + quick money. I think i've done it right.

Yep, you really need to be able to say 'no' sometimes.

However, I'm saying 'yes' to taking up the '30 Day Challenge' - I hope it's not too late.

I challenged myself on the 1st of August to 'Make My Blog Better in 31 Days' - and of course I'm documenting the whole thing on my Blog.

I'm finding a lot of posts you have blogged here to be useful in carrying out this challenge.

Cheers
Dominic.

Well put! One of my favorite books, "Boundaries" by Dr.'s Cloud and Townsend, explains a complete philosophy on this topic with a biblical perspective.

On the blockbuster part of the post: Blockbuster doesn't have a choice when Netflix starts to dominate the DVD rental business with a flat fee and "no late fee" policy. If a business doesn't change effectively, the rival will take over and you are ouf of the game. They did what they had to do.
On the "Saying No" part, I can't agree more with Steve. I have a very demanding job. If I don't say no and push back, I'd be working 7x24. Because of the No's I learned to say, I am able to run a blog site, do some hikings and strike a balance in my life. Because when the employer says, "We want to help you to achieve work/life balance.", that's just total bullshit. If we are not in control of our own lives, we would be walked all over... Check out my "Bitching about stuff" category to see how I said no to my bosses.
