What’s Your World View?

May 15th, 2005 by Steve Pavlina          Email this article to a friend Email this article to a friend

I found this short quiz that attempts to evaluate your world view (via Ravynstone Abbey).

My results are:

Existentialist 81%
Modernist 69%
Postmodernist 63%
Cultural Creative 56%
Materialist 25%
Idealist 25%
Fundamentalist 19%
Romanticist 13%

You scored as Existentialist.

Existentialism emphasizes human capability. There is no greater power interfering with life and thus it is up to us to make things happen. Sometimes considered a negative and depressing world view, your optimism towards human accomplishment is immense. Man is condemned to be free and must accept the responsibility.

Yep, that sounds like me. :)

What’s your world view?

    You scored as Romanticist.

Romanticism encourages society to look backwards to find our solutions. Your rationale is that things were much better a few hundred years ago so we should thus look back to those times and replace them in our modern society. You believe in a simple life and that the complexities of the modern world have turned it upside down.

Not bad, this explains why I hate the industrialized world, factories, cars, fire weapons, etc, things that do more harm than good to our society. Also it’s good to look back and learn from the mistakes of others, I can’t believe we are in year 2005 and there’s still people engaging in wars and multimillionaires drinking champagne while whatching on their expensive plasma TV’s how there’s people starving in Africa, etc. Years pass yet humans keep repeating the same mistakes all over again…

You scored as Modernist. Modernism represents the thought that science and reason are all we need to carry on. Religion is unnecessary and any sort of spirituality halts progress. You believe everything has a rational explanation. 50% of Americans share your world-view.Postmodernist75%Cultural Creative75%Modernist75%Existentialist75%Materialist50%Idealist50%Fundamentalist25%Romanticist0%What is Your World View?created with QuizFarm.com

  3. Paul Says:

    You scored as Idealist.

Idealism centers around the belief that man is moving towards something greater. An odd mix of evolutionist and spiritualist, you see the divine within man, waiting to emerge over time. Many religious traditions express how the divine spirit lost its identity, thus creating our world of turmoil, but in time it will find itself and all things will again become one.

I scored as Fundamentalist, although it looks like I am skeptical about most viewpoints :-). Perhaps this is why I like reading the blog even though I don’t always agree with Steve’s viewpoint. There is always something new to learn.

“Fundamentalism represents a movement in opposition to Modernism, stressing the highest importance on foundational religious tradition. Science has brought on corruption of society. God is real and is watching. Scripture leaves little room for interpretation; man is God’s creation. About a quarter of the population in the U.S. is classified as Fundamentalist.”

    I scored as Cultural Creative.

Cultural Creatives are probably the newest group to enter this realm. You are a modern thinker who tends to shy away from organized religion but still feels as if there is something greater than ourselves. You are very spiritual, even if you are not religious. Life has a meaning outside of the rational.

  10. Sean Says:

    I’m a postmodernist, sounds about right …

You scored as Postmodernist. Postmodernism is the belief in complete open interpretation. You see the universe as a collection of information with varying ways of putting it together. There is no absolute truth for you; even the most hardened facts are open to interpretation. Meaning relies on context and even the language you use to describe things should be subject to analysis. What is Your World View? (corrected…hopefully)created with QuizFarm.com

Steve, would you please enable comment preview? I would find it really helpful to correct errors (like the one I just made) and I’m sure other people would too.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t believe WordPress has a comment preview feature.

I had a look around the WordPress site and plugin wiki. The Live Comment Preview

    You scored as Materialist.

Materialism stresses the essence of fundamental particles. Everything that exists is purely physical matter and there is no special force that holds life together. You believe that anything can be explained by breaking it up into its pieces. i.e. the big picture can be understood by its smaller elements.

I am definately a postmodernist. Down with “Truth”! Up with information and interpretation!

And you know, the fact that there are all these different irreconcilable philosophies, where the adherants are terminally incapable of converting each other, just lends more credibility to the postmodernist idea.

But feel free to disagree. It only supports my case. :P
