		<description>If you&#039;re referring to the risk of packet sniffing of email addresses as they&#039;re being sent to the web server, I think the risk of that happening is negligible.  I think it would be overly paranoid of me to use SSL just for newsletter sign-ups.  What many people do though is create a freebie email address just for online usage.  I use my hotmail account whenever I&#039;m in doubt.

During the sign-up process for this site&#039;s newsletter, no human being even sees the email address.  It just goes straight into a database.</description>
