There were times when reading personal growth material inspire me, I remembered those time when I was just finished undergraduate study. Young, gained a lot of confidence during my study, makes me believe that I can practice what I learned from it and improve myself.

Several years after that, I often felt ashamed of myself when reading a good article like this. I have lost the belief that I could follow, and put it into practice.

Another great read. I'm going to be purchasing some motivational tapes to listen to while I exercise. Do you have any good suggestions?

Wow, Steve - I didn't know you were a father. I've got two children (soon to be three) and if you've got any tips on staying focused with kids around, I'd very much like to hear them.

Steve! The question is "Why are you so fully engaged?"
Few people are motivated enough to be fully engaged.

This may be interest to driven but cash-strapped people trying to start a business: Seth Godin of changethis.com is making available a 103 page PDF for people who are trying to start a business with little or no cash (a "bootstrapper") at no cost. It's located at http://www.changethis.com/8.BootstrappersBible
I found the link on Joel Spolsky's blog at http://www.joelonsoftware.com/

Damn you Steve! You caught me!

Funny you mentioned web-surfing as an ineffective form of taking a break from work. That's exactly how I got to your blog entry today!

In all seriousness, though, I found this article to be particularly useful in dispelling the myth that seems to be prevalant around here that you do nothing but work and your constant workload is what makes you successful.

Thanks for teaching us that we can have our cake and eat it too. ;)

Most of the traffic increase appears to be from the USA, although I did get a boost this month from Russian visitors too. The top six countries that sent traffic here this month are the USA, Australia, Canada, Poland, the UK, and Russia (in that order).

Usually I write a blog entry and then post it immediately. This one took me about 30 minutes, which is typical. I don't usually write posts incrementally or save draft versions; that only happens if I get interrupted. I do maintain a "blog ideas" list to remind myself of topics I eventually want to cover and to capture suggestions, but coming up with ideas is never a struggle. I can generate at least 1000 ideas for new blog entries just by scanning my bookshelf. The hard part is triaging which ideas to write about and which will never be mentioned at all.

It may seem like I'm being overly generous making such frequent blog entries, and while it inspires me to help people grow, also consider that based on my personal goals, I too benefit a great deal. I gain clarity by putting ideas into words, and based on feedback from others (some via comments, some via the contact form), I gain a deeper understanding of how practical/useful people find each idea. And that helps me refine ideas for developing future books and speeches. It's a lot like beta-testing software.

Since growth is my highest value, the feedback cycle of writing this blog helps me to grow as well. I think about a concept, write a blog entry, get feedback, think about it some more, refine the concept, and so on.

I also admit that it's very rewarding for me to get an email from someone telling me how a certain blog entry or article helped them in some way. I get at least a couple emails like that every day, which is certainly encouraging.

Making blog entries or writing articles are both work and fun for me. There isn't really a difference, so I don't think about this as one or the other. To me it's just living by my values.
