I just saw a post in the ASP newsgroups about an article titled, What does it REALLY take to be making 6 figures as a service professional? The bulk of the article is a list of 50 tips, many of which will apply to more than just service professionals. Worth a quick read, methinks.

I suppose the referenced list is good, but it makes $100k sound way more difficult than it is. I probably broke most of those rules, most of the time. Here’s my list, off the top of my head:
1) Read a relevant book every two weeks so you know what you’re doing
Maintain above average dress
2) Ask questions and challenge unarticulated assumptions
3) Be thorough and meticulous
4) Guard against arrogance and inappropriate emotional investment
5) Relocate to a suitable city, if necessary
6) Maintain an orderly work area
7) Maintain above average grooming
9) Don’t let your weight get out of control
10) Smile
You seem to be walking the walk, Steve. That’s a great inspiration to those of us contemplating a new business. Thanks for sharing the tools of your success! I’m looking forward to reading Getting Things Done; and giving it a try.
